Make a material difference by investing our in our sister enterprise Emerge Recycling
FareShare Greater Manchester redistributes surplus food from the UK food industry to frontline charities, schools and community services who are helping people in need. We believe that no good food should go to waste.
Established by EMERGE 3Rs in 2008, FareShare Greater Manchester is a leading member of the UK’s longest running food redistribution charity, FareShare. It is one of a network of 24 similar centres located across the country who all exist to fight the same two issues: hunger and food waste.
Helping to tackle food poverty in Greater Manchester
FareShare Greater Manchester was the first FareShare centre to be established in the North West in 2008. Since then, we have given out over 10,000 tonnes of food to over 250 frontline charities, community services and schools. That’s equivalent to more than 23 million meals for those in food poverty across our city region.
Our plan to keep going
In 2020-21 FareShare Greater Manchester responded to COVID-19 by providing a record 3,406 tonnes of food to services responding to food insecurity across Greater Manchester and parts of East Cheshire. This equates to over 8 million meal portions.
At the height of Lockdown 1, over 50,000 people a week were accessing FareShare-provided food. The full impact of the pandemic is still unfolding with many individuals and families struggling to cope and facing uncertain futures.
Due to the continuing demand for our services, we are expanding FareShare Greater Manchester’s operations with the aim of achieving 7 million meals every year. Find out more about the campaign and our COVID response via the FareShare Greater Manchester website and YouTube channel.
